Uganda Elections Data Portal
The results of the parliamentary elections in Uganda were not easily accessible to the citizenry or to political actors who needed to use that information strategically. Although the Electoral Commission had the results, these were contained in poorly navigable PDF documents, which seriously limited their consultation, analysis, and programmatic use.
We transformed the data contained in PDF documents into a structured and accessible database, and converted them into a digital platform where it was possible to review parliamentary results by electoral constituency. The tool also allowed for the identification of who had won in each area and how many of those people were women, a dimension especially relevant in the political context of Uganda.
We transformed dispersed and poorly accessible election results into a clear and usable platform to facilitate their reading and use by different actors.
The tool was used by the International Republican Institute in its programmatic activities with political parties in Uganda, strengthening their capacity to analyze results, adjust territorial strategies, and increase their reach in areas where they sought to have a greater impact.
