Portal de transparencia del gobierno de Monterrey

CONTEXT

Although many governments publish information formally, that information is not always understandable or useful for the citizenry. The challenge was to translate public data and institutional documents into clearer, more navigable, and updated formats that would facilitate a more transparent relationship between the government and the citizenry.

WHAT WE DID?

After obtaining first place in a contest organized by the Secretariat of Innovation and Open Government (SIGA) of Monterrey, we implemented an improvement to the transparency portal of the local government. The solution translated public information into more accessible language and converted quantitative data into visualizations that were easier to understand and keep updated, strengthening the practical value of institutional transparency.

OUR SOLUTION

We designed and implemented improvements to a transparency portal to make public information clearer, more understandable, and more useful for the citizenry.

WHAT WE ACHIEVED?

The project obtained first place in the SIGA Prize and a prize of USD 30,000, which allowed for the implementation of a concrete solution to improve the transparency portal of the Monterrey government. The experience demonstrated the capacity to translate formal openness into more usable transparency. The platform allowed for the presentation of public information in a more usable and closer way, improving data accessibility and strengthening the practical dimension of government transparency.

WHAT WE LEARNED?
"Publishing is not enough. Transparency is not exhausted by publishing information. It also involves translating it so that it can be understood, navigated, and used by the citizenry."
